what are they trying to do to me???

I was slowly starting to resign myself to the fact that I'll be missing my boys play Friday night football at Subi and then the AFL goes and announces that the first International Rules match for this year will be played in.....wait for it....Perth

upon reading this, I let out a rather loud "oh no!" (well, loud for 6:05pm when the room is nearly empty) to the point everyone at work become very concerned that something terrible had happened...they didn't seem to realise that it was worse than any of them had imagined!!! of course, they didn't understand...in fact, they laughed when I explained what was wrong!

no-one understands!!!

a web search has revealed something extremely distressing...for the first time in three years, my boys are coming to Perth and I won't be there to stalk them....sorry, I mean see them!

spend last weekend doing "free stuff" with Kris...Saturday we explored the Borough Markets, wandered along the south bank of the Thames between London Bridge and Tower Bridge then walked across Tower Bridge to catch a tube and Sunday we headed into Hyde Park to do the London thing (sunbake in a public park). Also caught Charlie's Angels II on Saturday night - a thoroughly mindless movie but fun nonetheless!

bye from sunny London!

McFlurries all round...

the super hot weekend has turned into an even hotter weekday...Sean who sits next to me has just returned from his smoke break with a McFlurry for everyone on our row of desks (10 in total) to cool us all down. I don't think they've quite grasped the concept of air conditioners that actually cool the air rather than just blow it around a bit!

hope everyone at home is enjoying winter!

my day in London

I'm woken at 6:45 every morning by my $10 Big W wristwatch alarm, climb the stairs for a bath (the shower is either very hot or very cold and not worth the effort), go back downstairs to dress, do makeup and hair, have my two weetbix equivalents and cup of tea, put on my shoes, grab the lunch I made the night before and walk the 300m to the bus stop. I flag down the next available bus heading to Ealing Broadway (207, E2 or E8), flash my magic £88 "access all areas monthly travel card", catch this bus to the Ealing Broadway station to catch the next available Central Line tube.

The tube ride takes about 45 minutes which is just enough time to amuse myself by reading, listening to cd's or laughing silently at all the candidates for the narcolepsy clinic. Luckily Ealing Broadway is the start of the line so I managed to get myself a seat most mornings before the train is crammed full of school students and office workers. The end of my daily morning tube ride is Liverpool St station where I ride a long, steep escalator and make my way to Bell Court House. An elevator ride to the fourth floor and I'm at work for the day.

If it's a fine day I take the short walk to Finsbury Circus to sit on the grass, eat my lunch and listen to the jazz played for the grey haired members of the lawn bowling club. Thursday lunchtime is my regular date with Barclays bank to cash my pay check and bitch that they still won't let me open an account.

Back to work until 6pm when I do the same trip as above (in reverse order of course) back to West Ealing. The tube is usually full when it arrives as Liverpool St station so unless I'm feeling particularly ruthless I have to stand until the tube gets to at least White City to get a seat.

Back in the front door at 7pm, slip into something more comfortable, cook dinner and prepare lunch for the next day. With dinner ready I plonk myself on my mattress on the floor, turn the TV to Channel 4 and try to stay awake for Big Brother at 10pm. If I'm feeling particularly awake I manage to watch the Graham Norton show during which Marieke usually arrives home to wake me up even more. Then I make a concerted effort to fall asleep so I can do it all again the next day.

and that's my day!

My Friday night ritual continues - to get off the tube at Shepherds Bush and make my way to the Walkabout for my weekly dose of footy - real footy that is. The boys have been doing the right thing by winning and the little man in Australia has been doing the right thing by taping the right game from Fox Footy for my Friday night entertainment. By 11pm it's time to leave because the Walkabout is all too loud and smoky and full of drunken antipodeans (geez I hate that word!!!)

In other news, Spiderbait was wicked, MGF are coming in September and this weekend I'm off to some street festival with Marieke's friend (and our possible future flatmate), Kris. I say possible and future because we need to save about £1,500 each for the deposit, rent in advance and agent's fees for any sort of accommodation in west or south west London. Until then I bide my time sleeping on the floor and trying not to burn myself again on the iron or stove hotplate frequently left on by the deaf landlady with the mute cat.

Missing home and hugs like you wouldn't believe so I can't wait for the many visitors heading this way to get here!

thanks for sharing my journey...you can catch me here!!!
